Supply Chain Management SCM APS Advanced Planning Scheduling
Fine Scheduling is the action of scheduling the production in a factory in the short term per line, integrating the manufacturing order deadlines in relation to the real availability of resources (human, available stock, fully-functioning machines, the real efficiency level of the production lines, even machines creating a bottleneck).
Advantages to users in the factory:
Optimisation: The sequencing functions of a finite capacity permanently offer a short term program which has been optimised in relation with the indications by the scheduler, which takes into account production constraints: order regroupment, alternative resources, priority of orders.The performance of the program offers realistic answers to planned and unplanned production events (recalculation in relation to unplanned events such as the unavailability of expected raw materials or packaging).
Simulation: Over the last few years, the working environment has become more ergonomic and today offers different types of visualisation of production orders, resources and stock, and it makes it possible to create simulations respective or irrespective of the different possible constraints. It is possible to directly access the orders, the resources, calendars or stocks, or to directly modify the scheduling by drag and drop operations. This can be specified (with labels or colours etc.) in order to make the understanding and elaboration of alternative plans easier.
Upstream and downstream communication: Upstream, the Planner and Scheduler can consult the real performance of the plan in real time, on certain tools.
Downstream, the people responsible for the production line can benefit from direct access to pre-set states (Editing standard documents, (listing of manufacturing order, in advance or delayed) or creating more relative ones for the line.
How does the company benefit?
Global reduction of costs by optimising capacity;
Optimising the use of resources (bottlenecks or globally);
Visibility by level: factory, workshop, team.
Reduction of cycle time: saving time in the making of a plan due to making the most of resources, plus, taking into account constraints by the system;
Improvement of customer service: deadline reduction (increased availability of products);
Simulations which calculate the impact of different scenarios;
Increased reactivity against hazards, thanks to simulations;
Faster communication between the relevant people.
